The pressure of succeeding

What is ‘success’? How does one perceive or achieve this and why does everyone want it?

Success can be very wide, you can be successful as a mother, as a child, as a friend, as a business owner, as an employee. You can feel success in yourself.

Success is personal. What success is for one person does not mean that it is perceived as success to another. There are no standards for success, but it does feel that way. It often starts with success at school and having good grades, listening to your teachers, your parents, … And if you are not in that boat, you are perceived as not a successful student, or it is difficult for you. Then you have a lesser chance of getting into a good college. Maybe medicine isn’t in the picture anymore.

But you don’t need good grades to succeed. Success isn’t in the numbers or in how good you are at following rules. There are a million different things where you can succeed, things that bring you joy, things that make you want to get out of bed in the morning. Those are the things you’ll feel success in. You will feel accomplished.

That may not be the classic path of being a doctor or a scientist; even being a business owner does not have to define your success. Everyone can succeed at anything they want; there are no limits. You can love being with animals and be the best caretaker of them all. You can love building furniture and excel at that.

Success isn’t defined by the public; it is defined by how you feel. You also do not have to earn it; everyone in this moment is successful in at least one thing. You successfully woke up and got out of bed, or even if you are still in bed, you successfully opened your eyes. I am proud of you.

You decide what it is you want to be successful in and success will follow.
